In early April the Bundy Easter Roundup will be on again presented by the Bundaberg Country Music Club Incorporated. Bring the caravan and camp onsite so you don’t miss any of the entertainment which includes a talent quest (26 sections) with Juvenile, Golden Oldies, as well as male and female vocalists, plus food and drinks will be available onsite.

GEMBOREE is the National Gem and Mineral Show which is held at Easter, hosted in a different state each year on rotation. The main aim of this event is to promote and foster a continued interest in all facets of the lapidary arts. Next year the GEMBOREE will be hosted by the Bundaberg Gem and Mineral Society Incorporated which is a member of the Queensland Gem Clubs Association.

Lapidary traders from all around Australia, along with the well known gem cutting company, Lambert Industries, will have on offer a wide variety of goods for sale including precious stones, semi- precious stones, fossils, minerals, crystals, jewellery and lapidary supplies and machinery. This event attracts ‘rock hounds’ from all around Australia, many of whom will camp onsite to enjoy all the activities on offer.

Bundy’s Aussie Country Muster is on again next year with a whole week of live Country Music, family entertainment at its best. There will be concerts by local artists, bands and invited professional guest artists featuring daily Walk up Entertainment with Rocket and Ally. An old time dance will be held on Wednesday night and a Variety Concert by selected guest artists on Thursday and Friday nights. On Sunday morning enjoy Bush poetry by leading professionals and walk up poets at Poet’s Breakfast followed by ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Gospel Hour. The Bundaberg Quilters will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary from the 3-5 August 2012 and this special exhibition will include more than 250 quilts, traditional and contemporary that have not been shown before, a quilt challenge to be voted on by visitors, works by the Textile Art Group as well as market stalls of handmade articles and trader’s stalls. Moore Park Beach Festival of Arts is an event that includes a temporary gallery in the Community Hall, last year there were over 200 entries and every year it gets bigger. Children’s entertainment includes Indigenous hands on activities, cultural dancing, food stalls, craft stalls, camel rides, sand sculpting and giant kites. Beach activities include miniature horses, drum making and much more.

 

The festival commences on Friday with school bands playing from 10.00 a.m. to noon, and the official opening ceremony is held between 6.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. The Arts judging will commence on Friday after 1.00 p.m. There will be a free raffle with visitors providing their name and address; this is beside a Festival raffle.  The Festival is held over four separate interconnecting areas, Community Hall, Bi-Centennial oval, Bob Nielsen Park and the beach.

The Turtles will soon be returning to Mon Repos for another nesting and hatching season, so make sure to book early and don’t miss this absolutely unique experience.

These cabinets were works of art within themselves, displaying not only beautiful and rare objects, but also the strange, primitive or curious.

On the fourth Sunday of each month the Historic Burnett Heads Lighthouse is open for visitors. This lighthouse was erected at South Head Burnett Heads in 1873 and was operational for 99 years until it was replaced by a taller tower. The lighthouse was relocated to Lighthouse Park in 1972 for preservation and stands as a lasting icon of the district. A Heritage Trail brochure is available at the lighthouse when it is open, and guides those who wish to go on the Heritage Trail walk which wends from the Historic Lighthouse to the current operational lighthouse, through the former Pilot Station Reserve and along the foreshore.
